Acoustic chambers

Acoustic chambers

As a part of the research and development project, three acoustic chambers were designed and built to enable acoustic testing of rotating machinery in compliance with the ISO 13347 and ISO 3741 standards.

The testing infrastructure comprises:

  • two reverberation chambers
  • jedna komora bezechowa

A special feature include the high level of interior acoustics and sound insulation to minimise the level of background noise and acoustic waves reflected
from the walls as well as reduce noise coming from outside. Each of the chambers has a floor space of more than 200 m3, offering a wide range of measurement possibilities.

Testing in the chambers will allow the calculation of:

  • tonal volume
  • determination of the acoustic power level of the inlet, outlet and housing of the fan and many other sound-emitting or sound-damping devices.

The measurement system is designed for testing the following under isolated environmental conditions:

  • radial and axial fans powered by motors of up to 200kW,
  • ventilation equipment, i.e. silencers, louvres, throttles and others,
  • electric motors and any other sound-emitting devices.

Basic scope of testing:

  • testing the level of sound power from the fan housing using the pressure or intensity method
  • determination of sound power levels of noise sources on the basis of sound pressure measurements – the technical method applied in conditions similar to free-field conditions above a reflecting surface
  • determination of sound power levels of noise sources on the basis of sound pressure measurements – approximate method using the surrounding measurement surface above a sound reflecting surface.
